If you're in the Bay Area and want to support local small businesses, consider doing some of your holiday shopping on the SJMADE store. SJMADE is dedicated to helping small businesses grow their business and brand in San José and the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area. I'm also trying to support diversity by sourcing from POC, of whom there are many on the site. Here are some of my awesome finds.
1. Organic perfume from Little Blue Cabin Co. - I opted for the jasmine fragrance, but there's different unisex fragrances to choose from. These are handmade, with organic and botanical essences and a lot of care taken into keeping everything, including the bottles they come in, clean and sanitary.
2. Duraznero candle from MiGi Cera Candles. I wanted to try every scent in this line! The candles are made from coconut wax and are hand poured. From the brand: "Duraznero" comes from the Spanish word meaning "peach tree". Fragrant ripe peaches muddled in a aged oak barrel give this blend a smooth and masculine finish.
3. Try the organic, caffeine-free herbal tea in elderberry rooibos from The Garden Home. There are also green, white and black varieties of loose leaf teas.
4. I adore this "Know Your Roots" print (currently sold out) hanging in my kitchen! The Lola x Kenneth Collaboration is a young man and his grandmother (Lola means grandmother in Tagalog, a Filipino dialect) working together on watercolor paintings and drawings. They are the cutest! If you're looking for a gift, consider the Ube pin.
5. "This Belongs to Us" is a whimsical yet empowering print from Bobo Design Studio, owned by an Asian woman inspired by travel and all things wanderlust. I contacted her to buy a poster-size version. You can also get gorgeous journals and stationery by other Asian American women creators on her website or in person when you're in Palm Springs. Spend $60 for free shipping.
6. Just in time for the holidays, check out this hand painted Two Bells Heart ornament from Meraki Strokes. A great gift or one of a kind decoration for your tree. Owner Suneet Bhatia will also do customized work.
